Fellow members of the intermed00 family are strongly encouraged to participate in the upcoming Medical Olympi-art held by the Faculty of Medicine UGM. This will be a competition that involves the WHOLE faculty. Time to make our intermed07 batch proud! Those who think that they are up for the challenge are required to submit their names, SOONEST to either me (Anastasia), Kishore, Wee Pang, Sudin, or Hema. The categories are as follows :

i'm sure you guys have had a WONDERFUL time celebrating raya holidays at home. i know i had :) soo it is not too late i hope, for me to wish each and every single member of intermed 07 (extra cheers to those who still realize this blog still exists. hehe)

Yes, yes, same like the bowling post *special shoutout to stacey. hehe*, this event is also long overdued. and yes, i realize how eager you people are for the posting of this story kan. *perasan case* hehe. call it a photoblog if you may, as this post contains a LOT of our pictures from that day.

We started of that day with a field trip to the HDO but everyone were actually excited and thinking about our next activity in the schedule.

THE BEACH!!!!!

It was a wonderful batch trip to pantai parangtritis, filled with fun activities such as sandcastle making, a dip in the cold salty water and also just plain camwhoring. I hope we'll have a lot more activities like this. At least something different from the usual geek-ing session everyday with our books kan. hehe. Well done our friends who initiated this idea. *clap clap*

Everyone was happy at the end of the day, excluding the fact that we ended up looking a few shades darker. LETS HAVE MORE FIELD TRIPS! :)

Long Overdue BOWLING Post

So, a long long time ago (yes, I have even forgotten when) *flips through the Announcements archive for the date* OH YEAH, on Friday, the 6th of June our batch went bo-bo-bo-bowling @ Saphir Square. It was nice to see many turning up for the batch event all eager to show off their bowling skills (well, some of them, anyway) while others came to support the event and to have fun.

Lots were cast, and everyone was divided into separate teams. Then, the games begun!

Hema got an A

Last Monday, our dear Hema was admitted to RS Panti Rapih. The diagnosis was Hepatitis A. For this reason, Hema has to be hospitalized for a week. As Malina said "Some A's are just not worth getting."

Hepatitis A is an acute infectious disease of the liver caused by Hepatitis A virus, which is most commonly transmitted by the fecal-oral route via contaminated food or drinking water. The time between infection and the appearance of the symptoms, (the incubation period), is between two and six weeks and the average incubation period is 28 days. Luckily, Hepatitis A does not have a chronic stage and does not cause permanent liver damage.

Hema's chief complain is having no appetite to eat, yet feeling hungry. Almost all of her meals were consist of bread spread with blue berry jam plus one boiled egg. The hospital's kitchen seriously are not creative at all in deciding the menu...at least give grape jam or pineapple jam sometimes..Hema is so kurus now...

This year birthday must have been very memorable for Hema, because she celebrated it in the hospital. Hui Min showed her the video we recorded after lecture. And the present she received was so much that she hardly had enough space to sleep.

There is a good news here. Hema said she will discharge on Sunday. So, we will probably see her on Monday. Welcome back to the Campus! We miss you!

Pandawa Solo Water Theme Park

On the 12 Jun 2008, our friends went to Pandawa Water Theme Park at Solo for some splashing fun. It is 2 hours away from our campus.

The entrance fee is 50k rupiah on Tudesday to Friday. XL user got 20% discount! Just for your information, Monday will be 35k while Weekends and Public Holidays will be 100k.

It has a wave pool, 5 rides, a Jacuzzi and a Bunji jumping. Unfortunately, the platform for the Bunji Jumping is not fully operational yet. So, I miss the great opportunity to see the terrified face of Yoke Yan :D

House Warming

House warming could be one of the most common thing to do when you moved to a new place to live - which I think it is just a way to say that 'Hey, this is my home now!'. And apparently, that was what my friends and I, the Pogung Baru Block B gurls did - ironically after months staying there.

But just to make everything official - last last Saturday, we geared ourselves up after the tutorial and ready to host.

Of course the planning took us a couple of days - Alia (our kos leader) would be the nervous wreck of course; it was not easy to serve food for +- 70 people. There were so many things to handle - food, drinks, tables, sitting positions and etc.

Well, I'm proud to say that I was in the Setting's Department - easiest job eva!! *chuckle evilly*

Anyway, to make things easy, we ordered our food from 'Grompol' (could be one of the famous place to eat according to us), and right before the event started, we went there to pick it up. Then came the table problem (there was no table to serve food) so with a straight face we just borrowed from a nearby food place - thank God they didn't charged us anything. Ha. Ha.

The 'ceremony' (it sounded so grand calling it that way ;p) started with 'Pembacaan Yasin' which then surely followed by the eating session (everyones fav part). I cannot exactly recalled what did we served - considering I was not in charge in that department but I think there was the traditional rice (duh), the main dish being chicken and there were also some generous side dishes that were bought by our lovely guests. Loved the cakes, popia, karipap, jelly and much more!!

Besides all the commotion of people rushing to get some food, majority of the girls (which were already eating) were going fanatic and began taking a huge amount of pictures.

Being the photographer, I don't quite think it was a memorable experience for me. Haha. (But it was kinda fun)

Apart from all that, one of the most absurd thing I ever witnessed happened too.

We had a freaking tour around the house - into EACH ROOM

And to make matter worst - the human species known as MEN were thes one judging our rooms.

Okay, where's the logic in that?

I could swear it should be the other way around, but the boys went all excited and ask for a tour as if the house is some sort of an amusement park! They even take pictures! (0.0)

Imran even commented that none of our rooms can match his.. geez.. (Like anyone wanted to be their room as pink as his - haha)

There they goes from one room to the other... and from one floor to the other.

I must say it was ridiculous, yet hilarious.

Guess we should have this kind of gatherings more often.

We had international day on the 17th and the 18th of april.. on the 17th was the food fest and singing performance..

we should start with the food fest.. in the Malaysian stall we had malay food.. chinese food and indian food.. for the malay food.. prepared by our very own aisyah and izyan and the pondok almira girls… ( who has now shifted to block B pogung baru ) made some delicious nasi lemak that was highly demanded.. they also made some kuih cara.. and some kuih that I’ve never heard of la… hahaha. when we went around 11 something… the kuih all dah habis wei.. so we just bought nasi lemak only.. it was that popular la.

nasi lemak... tengok la... see itself... my salivary gland stimulated la.. hahaha...

the chinese food was prepared by the second year seniors I think.. and a few third years were there helping too.. they had hainanese chicken rice and egg tart

some seniors selling the food.. look at the food.. can you spot the hainanese chicken rice??? yummy...

as for the indian food.. they had vadai… and chudney.. fffuuuuhhhh.. nice la… it was very nice.. maybe cause I am indian and I seriously am craving for indian food...

and we had like some seniors putting henna la.. hmmm.. they are so talented la.. :-D and obviously the henna interested a lot of ppl la.. its an unique art...

at times i wonder how artistic can they get.. and they need a lot of patience and concentration for it... hmmm...

THEN… the big event of the day..

THE BAND!!!

the sad thing was they already announced the performance.. but the members were not here yet la.. haiyoo.. kesian ray.. he was the only one there.. and he had no choice but to entertain the crowd for a while.. first he sang a chinese song while playing the keyboard.. then he sang " if you're happy and you know it clap your hands song.. " we followed la.. then he sang "B I N G O".. and then thank GOD the rest of the band members came la.. Ray... seriously i respect your guts and spontaneity... its hard to be on stage doing that.. after they all came.. they tried out the instruments for a few minutes.. they all looked so good.. thanks to stacey who did the make up for the girls.. :-D

we are proud of you la ray... :-D ( mr. who can-never-go-wrong )

and at last they performed... yay!!! the malaysian students were making so much of noise shouting as a sign of support.. hahaha..

hmmm.. after the performance.. many of them went back… but some were still waiting for the nasi lemak to arrive.. and the day ended just like that… with a tired smile on everyone’s faces… hahaha..

Friday was the big day… international faculty of medicine presented 4 dances… firstly dikir barat…

fffuuuhhhh... dikir barat.... cekap gila...

Nasrul as the tukang karut was spectacular… the way he sang “ ado seko anak tupah” was like fuuuuhhhh… and the other guys involved from our batch were marvelous too.. making all the jungle noises in the world.. hahaha.. we followed suit.. ;) hehe… and then the traditional ewa bule dun have to say la.. even the coming in and going out was so nice ( although gobi’s hand alone was wrong when going out… hahahaha… I doubt anyone noticed it… ;) ).. oh yeah.. not forgetting the clapping.. so happy that you guys finished it correctly.. and no one overshot… hahaha… good job ppl… we should say thanks to the seniors who played the instruments and was in charge of the whole thing also..

Next performance was the indian dance… aaja nachle.. hmmmm.. my choreography and teaching.. in the end was nice la.. although we danced on the stage that was based with planks.. OH MY GOD!! You so do not know how unstable it was.. with all the turning and the jumping.. hahaha.. but we made it through. As usual.. our friends were screaming la.. I personally would like to thank all those ppl who helped me along the way.. you know who you are.. :-D

The malay dance.. kurik kondi was nice also.. the dancers were dressed nicely with their traditional malay costume.. and they all look so handsome and pretty… hehehehe… thanks to the third year seniors who did the choreography.. congratulations.. your hard work paid off… :-D

eh.. amir.. confirm engkau tak jatuh.. fuuuhhh... oh.. yeah.. sudin is standing behind.. so u cant see him.. one of the best dancer la sudin ( he and his fav step yang over... hehehe.. )

And the last dance performed by the intermed students was the german dance.. this dance was choreographed by Stephanie.. and their dressing was so good la..

Hmmm.. and no matter how they danced.. they always end up with their own original partners… interesting la wei..

And in the end we took photos… and all the performers got food.. sedap wei… hahaha.. ok la.. and international night ended.. and none of the performers prepared for tutorial the next day.. hahaha… apa lagi kena from the tutor la.. hahaha…

The Birthday Post

Not too long ago, one of us turned 19! The big one-nine! This is none other than our very own Woan Shiang, whose birthday fell on 7 April.

I am very sure all of us would remember this very date as we were all sweaty palmed and boring our noses into our books, waiting for the time to go into the much dreaded hall. Yes, you’ve guessed it, 7 April was also the day we had our Histology examination! Although there weren’t any after-lecture birthday announcements by Imran, everybody in the waiting room sang Ms. See the Happy Birthday song (awwwh, how sweet of them!)

Exactly a week later, we all celebrated Woan Shiang's birthday at this place called Arirang. It was an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu a’la steamboat dinner cum party. Yummy! The birthday girl was clad in a brown top and a pair of white pants. With some powder and some make up, the birthday girl stole the limelight of the night.

With good food, an excellent venue and great company, the celebration was in short, a blast!

River Rafting Adventure Part 1

“daaayung sampan, dayung dayung sampan……”

Last Sunday marked a perfectly adventurous day for some of us. On the morning of 13th April 2008, Sungai Elo received a delegate of 59 students from faculty of medicine GMU, ready to hit the current. Batch 2007 was the dominating bunch, driven by our first-time enthusiasm for exploration. And also to release some steam from our block 1.4 exams. Yes, we need this once in a while. The rest of the participants were our seniors from batch 05.

So we gathered up in front of Narita photocopy shop at Jalan Kaliurang that morning. As usual, one always need to inform others to be there at a certain time, whereas in reality, the scheduled time of meeting is always 30 to 45 minutes later. Typical. Anyhow, being the witty brats that we are, the trick ended up being outsmarted and having no purpose whatsoever as people came late anyway. The bus came on time and we hopped on to start our 1 hour plus bus ride to our destination. yeayy. :)

Two buses came to bring us to that sungai place from Jakal. While happily minding our own business; some sleeping on the dangerously unstable moving bus, some eating their breakfast and some covering their nose from the constant inhalation of dangerous porpotions of carbon monoxide, the bus suddenly stopped. *the girls’ bus only laah, boys one happily leave us behind*

The best part was, at the roadside where we stopped, you can see a small pond with fishes occasionally flicking the water surface.

One girl said, “let’s river raft here lahh. Also can whattt” you kidding me right. Hahaha. -_-"

After waiting on the stagnant bus for quite some time, to everyone’s relief, the bus driver fixed the problem and we were good to go! The boys have already reached the place at that time since they were already way ahead of us.

Upon arrival, we were served with hot tea (more like overboiled, possibly tongue-burning hot tea). The place is quite nice actually. The facilities included, of course, river rafting equipments, a bungee port and also what seems to be an abandoned swimming pool. Gobi ended up “merasmikan” the pool when he became the first, (actually the only one) to be pushed into the lumut-infested pool. Hahaha. Some of us were busy taking photos while some, observing the eye-soothing scenary.

Group distributions! Dinakaren (batch 05) was the head of our delegation. He assorted us according to our respective groups and informed us the schedule of the day.

The journey to the starting point, was indeed very interesting. haha. We were transported (barefooted!) by a modified small lorry jeep thingy to the starting venue. Some of us jokingly complained on how we look like illegal immigrants being transported here and there. Haha.
We geared up accordingly to fulfill the safety requirements. They provided us with safety jackets, helmets and of course oars. Some of us looked pretty ridiculous with the helmet on. Wee pang called me a turtle look-alike in the asymmetrical helmet. -_-“. Kecewa.

Our chief instructor was so hilarious during the briefing session about safety precautions while rafting. *the seniors said his jokes were ‘surprisingly’ similar all these years. So that’s a bit potong stim for me*

“jika kamu jatuh dari bot, buat gaya memandang ke belakang.....jika nggak boleh, buat aja gaya pasrah“

And the funniest part was that he did it with the straightest face ever you can imagine. Aisyah calls it ‘lawak kering’. Haha. Don’t ask me what is lawak basah okay -_-“ I also don’t know. So anyway, we started off with a prayer, (semuaorang concentrate extra a bit, probably praying hard for our dear lives) and the adventure starts!

Every group was assigned a humongous rubber boat and an instructor to save us from drowning or to prevent us from wandering aimlessly in the water.

Yeahh. BIG help…..

They were the ones having most fun splashing water (coffee mix coloured water, mind you) to us, the first timers from other boats.

But it was all great fun. We exhibit amazing group harmony while rowing in unison in an attempt to lead the boat to the right direction. For my group,*promotelahh a bit*, Fazrul led the pact by commanding ‘rowing’ instructions like “satu, dua, tiga tariiiiiikkkkkk” (ehh, like tarik tali pulak), or “satu, dua, kayuhhhhhhh” as all other groups probably did also, Then he got bored saying all the cliché instructions he suggested we command each other by saying names of nerves and drugs. Haha. For a second there I thought we should have put a big sign on our boat saying “medic students on a rowing mission!”

We enjoyed the scenic view while trying to maintain control of the boat. Upon reaching rocky and dangerous sites, the instructor instructed us to be extra careful and to row forcefully forward.

OUR BOAT GOT STUCKED!!!

On top of the big black rock in the middle of the river. *bummer*. Luckily everyone had their straps on or else, sayonaraa~

The instructor commanded everyone of us to shift to the front of the boat so that he can release the boat from the rock and we can continue our journey. Everyone cheered on as the boat was once again steered at the right direction.

A few times, our boats collided with other boats. Some groups eagerly rowed full-heartedly *semangat yang harus dicontohi* to get in front of others while some (usually the memang slow ones) will bagi alasan that they want to “menikmati the pemandangan” and just remain at the back. But seriously, one can simply be at ease just by enjoying the view, ones we rarely see back home.

Half of the race ended, and we rowed to the side of the river to rest for a while. Some of us happily swam in the coffee mix coloured water while some, enjoyed their refreshments on the boat. One photographer/sungai elo paparazzo came and took our picture with our ‘boatmates’. cheeeessseee ^^

We continued our journey with more challenging current ahead of us and completed the whole course around an hour later.

*apologies for the lack of photos during river rafting. unless we wanted get our cameras wet, photo-taking was not possible, and we have yet to receive our ordered photos from the paparazzos involved. more pics on part 2!
